We don’t just want to take kids to and from school, we want to help NYC students explore NYC.
In most cases schools in NYC, even non-public schools, won’t have to pay to use our buses for field trips. Details below.
This map shows 200 field trip locations. The slider at the top left of the map opens a key describing the markers. In some cases — courts, parks, others — we didn’t list all of the sites but describe those resources below.

Planning Your Trip

The United Federation of Teachers has some guides to successful field trips. Their latest was published in April 2025, before that they provided thoughts in February 2023. UFT even made a list of field trip sites, and the map on this web page includes everything on their list.
A website called NYC Community Schools has a number of Field Trip Planning Resources.
We also found a simple guide from the National Park Service with Ten Tips for a Successful Field Trip.

NYC Public Schools provides free school buses for field trips weekdays between 9:30 and 1:30 for all NYC schools, including on-public schools. Details are on the Office of Pupil Transportation web page. There seem to be similar information on the main NYC Public Schools web page. Schools can also see the guidance given to bus companies like ours about field trips.
Want a bus outside the time NYC provides free ones? Here is a NYS Parks programs that reimburses the cost of travel to state parks and historic sites.
But… if kids don’t take school buses on trips that means we folks at NYCSBUS can have a second cup of coffee after the morning run. So… know that the link to NYC Public Schools web page has password-protected way (we’re not a school, so maybe schools can access this) to get free passes from the MTA. Students can use their NYC student OMNY cards for free travel. And the city’s Department of Youth and Community Development has a program to provide free MTA passes for “youth-serving organizations.” Plus, the point of our map is that maybe you can find a location near enough to your school so everyone can walk.

NYC Public Schools has 16 pages of regulations governing trips for its own schools. The schools’ health office has forms parents seem to have fill out. But we’re just a bus company and not sure about the actual regulations, we’re just trying to collect information in one place, consult with your supervisor.

Local businesses and institutions will often welcome students, even if they do not have a formal field trip program.
New York’s PBS station has guides to field trips at a local pizzeria, the grocery store and more. We have links below about field trips to parks, nature centers, firehouses, courts, libraries and other institutions scattered throughout our city. Doherty restaurants (the parent of Applebee’s, Panera and others) welcome field trips. Other businesses probably do too. New Yorkers love to help each other, sometimes you just have to ask.
