NYC Fleet Vision Zero Defensive Driving Course for School Bus Drivers
Spring 2026 — For Bus Drivers Only

This course is for DRIVERS ONLY
This is a six hour and ten minute class in 10 modules that is required for all school bus drivers in NYC.
Designed by the Office of Pupil Transportation, it teaches safe driving skills.
Besides helping keep our streets safer it can help you personally in NY State. Those who complete the course see their auto insurance premium reduced by 10% and can have up to 4 points removed from their driving license.

Drivers will be paid for 6 hours of work if they complete the course:
1) On or before June 30, 2026.
2) On a weekend or on a day when there is no school bus service.
No-service days include these specific dates (May 25, May 27, June 4–5, June 19, June 29–30) OR any date that your route is not running.
Payment may take up to 6 weeks.
Course completion is tracked by OPT who recommend that drivers complete the course in one day.
You may be asked to provide a copy of your completion certificate.
Drivers on summer leave who are collecting unemployment may not be paid until the fall. -

This course is for DRIVERS AND ATTENDANTS
It is a video that lasts approximately 10 minutes. The video narrates slides prepared by the Office of Pupil Transportation.
The course has four purposes. It 1. Reinforces NYC school bus safety protocols, 2. Addresses recurring incidents and complaints, 3. Sets clear expectations for behavior and professionalism and 4. Ensures safe, respectful services for all students, especially students with disabilities.

This course is for BUS ATTENDANT ONLY
This is a 60 minute class in 5 videos that is required for all school bus attendants in NYC.
Designed by the Office of Pupil Transportation, it teaches bus attendants to support students with Autism.
